Such a wonderful & interesting morning with @2destlang listening, reflecting, exploring & deconstructing the concept of value at @GIFTfest - I've got the following takeaways from the session, which are seeds for future reflection. #TheGIFTExchange
#1 Value in the creative sector (& life in general) being based on productivity & outputs, or what you are SEEN to be doing. This view doesn't account for divergent thinking processes & invisible productivity.
#2 That we assume value & operate on a variety of assumptions. We need to assume less & question more.
#3 We need to start having a much more honest conversation about a value - "every budget tells a story"- it tells a story of what organisations really value, what they invest into, what their priorities are, irrespective of what they try to portray on social media & say.
#4 Talking about honesty....where is the line drawn between being vulnerably human verses being professional. A lot of the conversations around "value" are extremely emotive - how emotional can we get professionally?
#5 My value to the theatre/creative sector can be really championing relational exchange over transactional exchange; this at the heart of my work, but stands against the "quick wins" that our society push towards productivity champions. SO much to think about!
