)He’s wrong. I spoke to my psychologist father in law about this. The reason many people fall for conspiracies isn’t poverty (you didn’t see BIPOC storming the Capitol in mass): it’s a mix between isolation & entitlement. The GOP stokes both through racial resentment messaging. https://twitter.com/mollyjongfast/status/1388302815030878215
)It’s continuously clear that the media & some politicians are willing to be compassionate to White rioters, but not Black protesters or rioters. I don’t see the same curiosity about how discrimination & poverty can lead to desperate circumstances. That’s a long been a problem.
)Look at how the media and politicians treated Opioid V Crack. Drugs tend to be used simi-equally across demographics but because the Opioid crises was perceived as white, compassionate news coverage & policy came quickly. Not for the crack crisis where users were dehumanized.
5) I urge the media and politicians to be introspective and ask yourselves why you’re constantly extending compassion and humanizing one group while constantly lacking compassion and dehumanizing others. Look at Ma’Khia Bryant. How the media blamed her for her death.
)They refused to look at the totality of Ma’Khia’s life, reducing her to a moment. I’m all for politicians compassionately looking for people motivations as long as they are extending that humanizing compassion for everyone, to find how we reduce harm, isolation, & end poverty.
