Know what you need to work. Including:
Administrative support (novice vs. experienced)
Ethics
Infrastructure
Recruitment
Operating costs
Staff
Trainees
Travel
Space (room to grow?)/Renovations
IT support and rules
Teaching load?
Salary came up of course - Know what you need to live:
Factor cost of living
Retirement
Moving expenses?
Know the local:
Rules
Regulations
Costs
Timelines
Gatekeepers
You advocate for you, nobody else will do it as well.
Do not care what an individual gets (can make collaboration later hard) – do care about structural problems though! Look for reports, talk to people.
Have a basement line in the sand. Can’t win a race with shoelaces tied together. You can change your plans to fit or look elsewhere. You can't promise "X" and be under resourced and still succeed odds are.
Talk to mentors about their set up experiences, any new faculty you have access to.
Installments? All at once?
Salary again - Use data, sunshine lists, faculty contracts usually have ranges in them – search!
