Teaching story alert! The science faculty @azimpremjiuniv take the lab component of the curriculum very seriously. In many ways, a signature feature is the degree to which science is taught in a hands-on manner. So lockdown was challenging, to say the least. Most places..1/n
..switched to virtual labs. The Physics faculty here weren't satisfied with that. If students can't come here for labs, labs should go to them, they thought. They devised a way to do this! Below is the lab equipment sent to do all experiments for @pcvmlk's wave phenomena class
The entire course was done with these materials sent to each of the 20 students in the course in Jan 2021:
2 hacksaw blades
1 slinky
2 rubber bands
6m string
3 springs. All together--less than 400Rs (with shipping) (Students needed a phone that could record too)
here was a typical assignment. Students were able to do hands on work in a way that was central to their understanding..
Thought that I'd share this since we are drowning in bad news, and I was inspired by the creativity and dedication of the Physics group. More examples are there, and we may put together a resource sometime.
(had to rewrite some of the latter part of the thread--no idea why it didn't go through the first time)
