lately when im awake for too long i get super emotional abt the concept of "furniture" in umineko
UMINEKO SPOILERS// i was thinking that beatrice's furniture was really misleading bc it was a different use of the term but. no! furniture... created for its master, used at its masters pleasure, incapable of finding fulfillment or taking action on their own.....
UMINEKO SPOILERS// MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// thinking abt how genji took yasu and molded her entire life so she could be kinzo's twisted redemption... and then after she fulfills her purpose and learns everything she learns she feels trapped in rokkenjima--
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// --unable to see a way forward, unable to break away because of her place in her "master"'s narrative and what that's done to her body, her relationships, and her sense of self
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// I think "furniture" means "a prop in someone else's narrative"... someone whose identity is so subordinate to somebody else's that they can't live normally-- can only live at all when their "master" is there
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// yasu was kinzo's furniture... genji was also kinzo's furniture (I 100% believe genji was in love with kinzo, and even if he wasn't he devoted his whole life to him)
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// genji says his definition of "furniture" is different from shannon and kanon's... I think thats bc genji is content to be kinzo's prop. shannon and kanon are not
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// and... isn't shannon george's furniture, to an extent? to a somewhat lesser extent, isn't kanon jessica's? not that shannon/kanon is unhappy in those roles-- but those roles are limiting and they can't carry them out fully or live much beyond them
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// now that i think about it, of the cousin relationships only beato and battler don't have a furniture dynamic (except for end of ep2 huhu)... ofc beato identity is tightly linked to battler, but she's not his prop, she's screaming at him
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// I think what im saying is that beato is taking a more active role-- she's not being molded and defined by her love interest (outside of appearance), she's the one trying to change him
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// you were never really furniture yasu... but of your identities you were the least furniture as beato. k*ll whoever you want
its 2:30 am, goodnight
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// ok one more thing. thinking abt ppl saying that furniture has no right to love... bc furniture relationships are fated to be unfulfilled? my argument is breaking. "furniture" is less than a "human," could we say that "furniture" is a "persona?"
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// im caught between focusing on yasu saying she's furniture bc her physical body isn't "capable of love" and the ways that genji is furniture. furniture is a prop to another person who cannot truly "love" them how they want? inchresting. it's 2:37am
MAJOR UMINEKO SPOILERS// im assuming genji is "furniture" bc of homophobia/kinzo's duty to the ushiromiya family/the class difference once genji became a servant. sad... but genji is content... but should he be? he seems happy being furniture, but look where that led...
