/n: Lost 3 people in the family to Covid in the last 10 days. They were vaccinated, they could afford the best healthcare and they had the will to fight it out. Despite that privilege, they couldn't make it.
/n: Imagine working for all your life, saving for unfortunate emergencies, buying health insurance at the most exorbitant premium..and not even get a hospital bed in the direst moments.
/n: As a grieving family, where do we place the blame? Do we blame ourselves? Do we blame the Centre? State? China? What do we say when our loved ones gasp for breath and ask when the next cylinder is coming?
/n: Do we show them your tweets hailing the govt for handling the crisis so well? Or should we shut them up and ask them to not tarnish India's image? How do we tell them that they'll have to die just because Centre and State are unable to figure out Oxygen logistics?
/n: What do we do when even our doctors break down and cry for help? Can your govt-hailing tweets and hashtags alter reality? The reality is that we're running out of people in our families to cremate one another. We'll never get the closure for the deaths we've witnessed so far
/n: It's been over 10 days since I've been waking up daily with the hope that Delhi would get more oxygen, beds, medicines, and vaccines. Every day my hopes get shattered. I get calls from people crying for help and I tell them that I'm sailing in the same boat as them.
/n The youth of India today are carrying the burden of a failed system. We live in constant fear and anxiety as we shoulder the responsibility of keeping our elders safe and alive. Most of us, at this point, have given up on our careers as we're only focussing on survival.
/n: It's not just our spirit but our voice is also being crushed. As I type this, there's a fear that I'll face the consequences for venting out at a time when I'm grieving. I might as well have to take this whole thread down for speaking when I should be mourning silently
/n: I don't know what fate holds for all of us. On an individual level, I've tried focussing on solutions instead of problems. But the only long-term solution I see is if we the people remove our blindfolds to realize what we're really dealing with.
/n: We need to hold our leaders accountable instead of massaging their egos and doing their dirty propaganda. If it is the politics you choose over the lives of millions, just remember that this wave could drown you as well. Take the red pill, wake up to reality!
Response to queries: For those asking about vaccination, they were all vaccinated with one dose only and not fully vaccinated. They were senior citizens. Won't mention the names of the vaccines as it creates unnecessary confusion and dilemma.
Continued: Two of them were on their way to get the second shot when they started to feel unwell and couldn't get the second shot.
