The only 2 queens of colour being in the bottom & the only Indigenous queen going home first episode is REALLY fucking yikes 😬 #dragracedownunder
Jesus christ the Gaytriarchy™️ is coming at me in the replies today.
A couple things (thread): if the casting was diverse then we wouldn’t need to criticise this particular elimination quite so much, as there’d be other queens to represent a range of communities.
Secondly, art is subjective - there were at least a few other queens Ru could have justifiably put in the bottom & his decisions aren’t above criticism, particularly when he doesnt always understand international references (remember the Joe Black ep 1 UK travesty)
I’d argue a memorable look that hit the brief and delivered a very powerful message is more worthy of ‘safe’ than more polished looks we’ve already forgotten which didn’t even bring to mind the city they were meant to represent (e.g the Canberra look)
We also can’t ignore the unfair ways capitalism impacts this competition & especially in runway challenges constantly sees talented queens from disadvantaged communities sent home. In comps like Project Runway all competitors have the same budget. #dragracedownunder
