- maybe i'll make some vlogs about this topic in the future - anyway NOTES FROM THE NYC REAL INDIE FILMMAKER LIFESTYLE - last 12 years
- "discovered" :) or visited NYC in 2008 or so to shoot some scenes for a doc i was making, found NYC to be awesome, decided to move here
- finished a doc - INDIE FILM BLOGGER ROAD TRIP - and shot a fiction feature BROOKLYN FANTASTIC - during what i call 'the move period' - part time living in NYC and eventually full time living here by at some point in 2009
- have been to 100s of film screenings and dozens of film events - meet ups, film festival Q&As, etc, over the last 12 years in NYC - all kinds of theaters here - from massive ones to tiny ones
- worked a bunch of day jobs in between taking time - sometimes months at a time - to shoot and or edit my movies. mostly media related work - marketing/sales using the web, wholesale books, ran a bookstore for a while, and did some film/video work for hire
- made feature BROOKLYN FANTASTIC in 2014, WEREWOLF NINJA PHILOSOPHER in 2018, and THE SECRET SOCIETY FOR SLOW ROMANCE in 2021
- time flies by super fast in NYC because there is always a lot going on here (at normal times, and soon once everyone is vaccinated) - so it does not feel like 12 years that i've been here so far
- met filmmakers, actors, film critics in NYC - a great town for meeting people (at normal times, not now :)
- so one can pursue real indie/micro-budget filmmaking in NYC and lead a good, interesting, fun life here. it's a lot of work. but a lot of people who work a lot live here - it's kind of the norm
- nice parks, a very photogenic city, a lot of talent - it's a great place to live for someone who likes the many things this massive city has to offer

end of thread - some notes on living in nyc & making indie movies :)
