oh thank god a post that summarizes my feelings about tone indicators and accessibility and doesn't dismiss any of the sides about this. ive been struggling to put it into words but this is really it.
some basic tone indicators that are already widely in use can super useful!! forcing people (in general, im not saying its bad to like use them in groups) to memorize an extremely long list of code that represents tones is. just recreating the original problem of inaccessibility
again esp since this got bigger than i thought i wanna be clear this is in no way telling people to stop using tone indicators if they work for you/your group of folks but this is a post about conflicting accessibility needs and like, some potential solutions to that y'know
clarification again: ik the op in the post specifically mentions anxiety and tone indicators are also used for autistic/adhd folks who struggle w tone and i want to clarify i am an autistic person w adhd who struggles with tone and also tone indicators.
so like i was never trying to say tone indicators are only for anxiety/that autistic/adhd needs are lesser. most of the people I’m now who struggle w long lists of tone indicators are adhd or autistic. it didn’t really occur to me to clarify this but like i feel i should?
it. kinda sucks to see people assuming im neurotypical bc i struggle w/don’t generally use tone indicators. i still very much struggle with tone yall...
hey friends i didn’t expect or really mean for this to get so popular, but while you’re here, could you help my friend or share their donation post? they’re so, so close to finally getting stable housing, but they need some help staying safe and off the streets in the meantime. https://twitter.com/haaidyn/status/1388509679836274694
