A semi-revelation for me with gaming involves trophies. As a kid, it was all about discovering secrets on your own.
Up until a few years ago, I would grind out mindless trophies and never ask why.

The difference, I think, is the immediate reinforcement (or some cases delayed gratification) of a trophy notification
popping up upon completing a task.

I am getting better at recognizing when Iâm hooked by external reinforcements via trophies. I ask if Iâm truly enjoying a game or just trying to get a virtual pat on the back.
The point of this thread I guess is to put my thoughts into writing and see if other people have noticed or felt similar things.
