I’ve seen folks go thru backflips trying to justify Ma’Khia’s killing. The police are the first people to tell us they’re highly skilled. What was the skill he used in that situation? Ain’t no skills. I’ve seen teachers & bouncers de-escalate far worse where everyone lived.

I’ve watched that video too many times. He *chose* to kill her and the Columbus PD policy enables and reinforces such a choice. It’s frightening to see people say the mere presence of a knife warrants death.

But we know this. We know we deserve something much better than this. The “how” is where I spend my days now. We need more courageous legislators and electeds. And we need to destroy the police union’s structural & lobbying power.
