it’s friday night so why not
‘Only Yesterday’ (1991). One of the rare films that have gotten me to cry. Stunning, contemplative and heartwarming.
Tabu (2012). Portuguese film on regret, desire, heartbreak, aging and running from ones sins. The personal is political.
Journey to the Beginning of Time (1955). Had this on VHS as a kid and recently rediscovered it. World class stop motion, a fun, clever, Czech children’s film.
Blood Feast (1963. Herschel Gordon Lewis and his star Connie Mason at their best. Tacky 60s Miami technicolor schlock featuring the ancient ‘Egyptian’ goddess Ishtar. Who needs quality acting with a film this good.
O Fantasma (2000). Erotic, depraved gay and Portuguese. What else is there to say?
Let’s Scare Jessica to Death (1971). In my opinion Zohra Lambert gives one of horrors greatest performances in this film. Unnerving, paranoid and possibly supernatural.
Starstruck (1982). Bright, sly, hormone filled Aussie new wave musical. Really fun music, really energetic performances, it’s just a great time.
The Seventh Victim (1943). 40s film noir following the search for a missing woman who has gone missing after being involved in a Greenwich Village cult. Nihilistic, glamorous and surprising sapphic.
