It was Dr BR Ambedkar who brought in the 8-hour working day duty to India, bringing it down from 14 hours.

He brought it in the 7th session of Indian Labour Conference in Delhi on Nov 27th 1942. Ambedkar framed many laws for Women Labors in India.

Ambedkar held the port-folio of Labour member in the Viceroy's Executive Council from July 20, 1942 to the end of June, 1946. He was one of the key architect of India's Labour Policy
The 8-hour workday has its origins in the Industrial Revolution in Britain. Labor was quite expensive in Europe through most of the middle ages.

With the advent of the late 19th and early 20th century, labour parties across the world revolted for the 8-hour workday. 3/3
