Australians! Petitioning your Federal MP to join the Bring Assange Home parliamentary group is an action you can take to #freeassange. @PeterKhalilMP is a new member thanks to a petition by constituents, here's how you can do it in your electorate
Get a petition together through @GetUp or http://Change.org  asking your MP to join the group. Clearly state why this is important to you. Clearly state what you are asking them to do.
Distribute the petition throughout your electorate. Email to fellow constituents, talk to your neighbours, ask local shops and businesses if they would like to prominently display a paper copy where people can sign. Add a poster to the display and sign clearly stating the aims.
Post about the petition on social media, tag your MP, let them know clearly that you are asking them to join the campaign and why! Update on your progress, so people can follow the progress.
Don't be deterred if you like the progress is slow. Even a few signatures is very helpful and even putting the message out there is helpful! Above all, MPs have a duty to hear the concerns of their constituents and this a great way to do so.
Politely request a meeting with your MP to present the petition. Call or email repeatedly if necessary. If they decline to join the group, ask them why? If they agree to join, well done! Ask them to make a public statement and post about their support for Julian on social media.
I hope this has inspired you to take a tangible action to help #FreeAssange!
