(Rant?) Still really not a big fan of how the different dubs in genshin can practically completely change a character’s personality . CN, JP and EN zhongli are 3 completely different characters in my eyes. CN and KR Zhongli are probably the closest to eachother

Friend of mine mentioned how it seemed like in the JP and EN dub, rather than fitting the characters the voice direction seemed to be voicing the characters off stereotypes. This would make sense given that most VAs have very limited knowledge on the character their voicing

but that’s when it’s the directors job to guide them and clearly the EN and JP directors had very different visions than the CN ones

I usually play in CN and whenever I switch to JP or EN I’m always like “who is this” when I hear Zhongli. Silverstein and Maeno are both amazing VAs but I wish the voice direction had been more consistent with the original voice over

I feel like Zhongli has the most inconsistency since his is different across 3 languages, but there are other examples too. Like Xiao sounds like a gremlin in EN but sounds calm in the 3 others. Yanfei sounds cute and lively in 3 dubs but sounds like a mature lady in JP

It’s just so disheartening to know that a character you’re attached to might possibly be a complete different person in someone else’s eyes because they’re playing in a different dub.

It shouldn’t be like this and I feel like the voice directors across all 4 languages should all run on the same standards for the characters

Uh... didn’t really expect this rant to get attention but maybe I’ll make a more detailed thread of my gripes on the differences between the dubs later on (specifically around ZL since I made this rant because of him lmao)
