We need to talk - again - about evangelical men and entitlement. The Duggars could be the poster family for the culture wars. Josh probably grew up with daily family devotions, corporal punishment for disobedience, expected to be a role model and leader for his siblings.

I’m sure the Duggars did everything white evangelical culture told them to do to raise children who would follow God. What was implied though?

Here’s Josh 6 years ago after the news that he molested 5 girls:

Implied: people with money and connections can get away with wrongdoing.

Implied: I’ve got a safety net at all times that will catch me when I screw up.

Josh again from 6 years ago:

“I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.”

Implied: my actions impacted my future alone.

For every Josh Duggar, Ravi Zacharias, Jerry Falwell, (insert others here), there will be 100s of evangelical men who are not in the news but doing the same.

Because they drank from the water of white evangelicalism that said they could do what they like and get away with it.
