Idk wanna promote the poster but this... this image is lowkey amazing in terms of misunderstandings about middle ages. First off, yeah the average medieval person didn't eat that much meat. It was consumed relatively regularly but not slabs of meat, least of all cow meat. If you
lived near water, your main protein would be seafood. Second, eggs were eaten but also used for other things such as paint. Chicken was not eaten unless wealthy as heck because again eggs were so important that eating the chicken who laid eggs was not a thing people could afford.
Third, Now we get into the actual fun stuff. So Tofu is at least 2000 years old. We have recipes for it since the Han dynasty. So it is definitely ancient but the image here is also rooted in victorian orientalisms. Also even funnier, almond milk which is shown prominently
was relatively common across Europe during the middle ages to drink. Also shows tea as "diet moderna" which again is a product from han dynasty around 59BCE. Last but not least the medieval bread most peasants ate is not white bread which was for rich people.
Medieval peasants ate more fiber bread that ironically nowadays is expensive as heck. So several things that is the "diet moderna" is in fact medieval food products.
