so the context to this is that taekook are best friends and have been for years. they’ve both dated but nothing has lasted. jeongguk has been in love with taehyung since the second time they met but doesn’t know how to confess to him

he’s just plucking up the courage, urged on by his friends, when tae bursts into his room and declares he’s in love.
for one hopeful second, jeongguk thinks he means witn him.
of course he doesn’t.

“his name is yoongi and i’m seriously in love with him. we’ve only been on two dates but i like him so much. i really think he’s going to stick around for a long time.”
jeongguk’s heart feels like it’s been stomped to the ground.
“hyung, that’s amazing,”

he says, and he must be convincing because taehyung flops down on top of him and tells him about yoongi.

jeongguk almost thinks he hates this guy, and they’ve never even met.

of course, when he does meet yoongi, he doesn’t hate him. yoongi is a perfect gentleman and, once he relaxes around jeongguk and their other friends, shows he is witty, smart, and has a hilarious sense of humour.
jeongguk wants to hate him but... he can’t.

and he definitely can’t hate the way that taehyung lights up around him. anyone who makes his best friend that happy must be a good person.
the looks shared between taehyung and yoongi when they think no one is looking makes it clear that they’re enamoured with each other.

even though it’s early days, taehyung is convinced yoongi is the one.
jeongguk can see it.

but what he can’t see is a space for him and all of his messy, complicated, overwhelming feelings for taehyung.

there’s no way that jeongguk is going to mess that up for him. he can put his feelings aside. he /can/.

and he does. taehyung seems happier than ever, but still spends quality time with jeongguk as they have always done.

what jeongguk doesn’t count on is yoongi.

over the weeks, yoongi has spent quite a bit of time both in jeongguk’s flat and with their wider friendship group. he fits in well.
jeongguk wouldn’t say he’s been avoiding him, but he hasn’t gone out of his way to talk to yoongi. he seems like a nice guy,

but his heart /aches/ whenever he sees the easy way yoongi curls an arm around taehyung’s waist, or when he walks in on them cuddling on the couch.

so imagine his surprise when yoongi approaches him one day.
