Kasperi Kapanen scored 2 goals and the #LetsGoPens had a 61% CF% with him on the ice in their playoff-clinching OT win last night.

Kapanen has been the most opportunistic Penguin this season. He leads the NHL in 5v5 on-ice shooting percentage (13.5%) and is shooting 17.2%, a career-high by 4.5 percentage points.

Most of that is luck, but some of it comes down to how effective he's been off the rush.

Out of his 23 5v5 points, 14 have come off of rush plays. Per Corey Sznajder's data, he ranks near the bottom of the team in terms of shots off the forecheck or cycle, and 1st in shots off the rush.

I'm not sold on Kapanen's body of work this season and once those percentages start to regress I have a feeling Pens fans won't be quite as forgiving about the limitations in his game. But if he can balance them out as well as he did last night it will definitely be good to see
