900k open tech position in the country, only educating 56k CS majors a year and 24k bootcamp grads means you want to create a culture that can utilize every available technologist. It means more people can walk out and find gainful employment than you would anticipate.
The detriment to leaders that have framed the pipeline problem as a Black, Latinx, and Native problem instead of what it is - an American labor problem - is steep. Just ill-prepared for all kinds of decision-making.
We keep trying to tell y’all. Managing a diverse team in a way that values the contribution of all people across lines of difference is a 21st century leadership skill that is non-negotiable.
I am not a demographics is destiny person. There is a lot more work then that to do. But it is undoubtedly a huge factor in the tensions and conflicts that are to come.
