I began learning this as a new father. My former church used to have heads of households/male only meetings on Sunday nights. One of those nights, they brought a man forward who had been convicted of sexual abuse... https://twitter.com/ErinMHarding/status/1388217156547006464">https://twitter.com/ErinMHard...
The pastors listened to *and accepted* then *peddled as true* that child abuser& #39;s story. That it was "consensual." I looked at the guy. I& #39;d spoken with him, considered him a nice guy, but this story did not ring true, even if one were to accept a minor can consent to an adult.
I researched. I found his appeal which shared evidence from his trial. It was shocking. He held a knife to a 14 y.o. girl& #39;s throat in her own home while her family was asleep. A family he& #39;d befriended and gained their trust.
He also had charges brought against him on the east coast. I shared this with a pastor. I got the vibe that me finding this embarrassed him and that it would make him look bad.
Was there another heads of household meeting correcting what had been communicated? No.

Imagine my shock, horror, and anger to walk into a beloved family& #39;s home to find their young daughter sitting on his lap.

To this day, that man attends that church w/no one the wiser.
