I want to tweet a bit about #PixarLuca. I have been curious to watch it since it was announced, because it& #39;s a Pixar film and it& #39;s set in my home country.
I have read and listened to a few interviews about the upcoming film, and I& #39;ve learned that the director - Enrico Casarosa, who also directed La Luna, stunning short from 2011 - based Luca on old folklore and his memories of childhood holidays.
One of the main themes of the movie will also be friendship, and it& #39;s easy to imagine this lovely trio of kids, formed by Luca, Alberto, and Giulia, run around exploring the town.
Every time I watch the trailer I catch a new detail. The rocky beaches from Liguria, the roads, the typical houses, the dama game played by two elders in the corner of a street. I feel like I& #39;ve lived in this town before, and it& #39;s not even real! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYfJxlgR2jw">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
The fictional town is called Portorosso, which is a mix of different town names, most famously Portofino and Monterosso, both villages in the Cinque Terre, and both facing the sea.
The story is set in this fictional & #39;50s/& #39;60s Italian landscape, with its new red Vespas and its loud kids playing football in the town square.
Casarosa adds that he was inspired by Hayao Miyazaki& #39;s films, as well as Italian filmmakers from the past.

The song you can hear at the beginning of the trailer is Edoardo Bennato& #39;s & #39;Il Gatto E La Volpe& #39;, AKA & #39;The Cat And The Fox& #39;, or the two infamous tricksters from Carlo Collodi& #39;s Pinocchio. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoBuv7HR-Fw">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
I imagine that the film might approach the theme of & #39;being different& #39;, Giulia brings up being the "underdog" in the trailer, and Luca and Alberto are literally sea monsters in a human town. I& #39;m really curious to see what this film will bring, in any way!
There are some questions I would like to ask to @sketchcrawl or @_jesse_andrews_ and @whereisjones, if they ever see this thread.
I know you had to work on the movie at home during the pandemic: how was the process and how much did it take?

Was the choice of people& #39;s names carefully chosen or was it random? Is there a particular reason why you chose to name the main character & #39;Luca& #39;?
Or is there a specific reason why Giulia& #39;s name is Marcovaldo, other than for a nod to Italo Calvino& #39;s work?

Did you decide to use some words in the Ligurian dialect, too or did you opt for Italian only?
And after hearing Il Gatto E La Volpe in the trailer, here& #39;s my last question: what other Italian songs -old or new- would you add to the soundtrack now when the movie is already done?
