All these people saying that Noel Clarke is innocent until proven guilty are, of course, right on the law. But we as a public do not have to act like lawyers. We can wonder, hey, why would 20 people, with nothing to gain and quite a lot to lose, lie?
Why would all these people create a wild conspiracy going back through years of corroborating evidence and testimony? What is in it for them, unless they were sincere? Why would so many people attack Clarke& #39;s career, especially if he is as good a guy as we all thought?
It is not unreasonable for us to choose to take these allegations seriously, and come to our own conclusions, and that is not "cancel culture" or "trial by media". It& #39;s being a grown up in an imperfect world.
No one is celebrating this. No one wanted this. But if the allegations, from 20 different women and over a long period, are as well founded as they appear, then we as humans do not have to wait for a court case that may never come to say we& #39;re appalled.
We, as individuals, don& #39;t have to withhold judgment forever. We can support victims even if our system will not. We can withhold our support from accused abusers even if the system allows them to continue.
And for those who claim that, gee, showbiz seems to be full of terrible people, please remember that showbiz gets reported on. Bob in the office does not. Paul at the local council does not. It doesn& #39;t remotely mean that it only happens in film.
