I'm very excited about my upcoming book launch of LILACS in the DUST BOWL, ( https://www.dianastevan.com/books/lilacs-in-the-dust-bowl/) biographical fiction and family saga, set on the Manitoba prairies during the Great Depression.
The Vancouver Island Regional Library will be hosting my virtual book launch on May 13 at 2 pm ( https://virl.bc.ca/event/virtual-book-launch-diana-stevan/). There will be an author reading and short power presentation to show how this book came together, followed by a Q and A discussion.
For the first time, because the launch is virtual, some of my friends and family, who live far away, will be able to attend. It's FREE and anyone locally or at a distance can join through the zoom link.
In search of a better life, Lukia Mazurets and her family travel from war-torn and occupied Ukraine to a farm in Manitoba just before the stock market crashes and the Great Depression begins.
Falling grain prices, the ravages of nature, and unexpected family conflicts threaten to dash Lukia's dreams of family security in a strange land.
And when love knocks on her door again, awakening desire she thought was long gone, she must choose between having a man in her life or the children she's sacrificed everything for.
Biographical Fiction / Historical Fiction
My novel is both biographical fiction and historical fiction, which means the story is based on fact but there's also fiction woven in. LILCS in the DUST BOWL is based on the life of my grandmother and her family.
I took my mother's anecdotes and, with my imagination and a lot of research, filled in the blanks.

The man on the cover of my new novel is my father, Peter Klewchuk. There's a scene in this story with that photo in mind.
Lukia's Family Saga
I never thought I'd write the first book, let alone a series. But I have and my series name is: LUKIA'S FAMILY SAGA ( https://www.amazon.com/s?i=aps&k=lukia%27s%20family%20saga&ref=nb_sb_noss&url=search-alias%3Daps). And I've begun working on the third book in the series. I'll have more to say about this work-in-progress in future posts.
