Today's the last day at @HuffPostUK for 17 of us. And we're going out on a high – this week we've published some great examples of the stories that we got into this game to do. 1/
First up, here's @AasmaDay with some really moving stories about how immigration builds communities and families, and what will be lost under the government's much-touted "points-based" system that reduces people to their economic value. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/points-based-brexit-immigration-system-impact_uk_5e57f4e1c5b6beedb4e82321 2/
Here's a two-part special report that @emmayoule spent months putting together on people who have died in police custody and the continued lack of accountability in the UK. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/police-custody-deaths-british-families-speak-out_uk_60884fd8e4b0ccb91c2aa4a6?os9 3/
In the second part, she spoke to @BZephaniah about his own experiences of being harassed and profiled by the police – and his cousin's death https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/benjamin-zephaniah-racism-police-stops-custody-deaths_uk_60869a80e4b09a22a444dc1b 4/
Here's @GraemeDemianyk with an exclusive report on all @policeconduct's active investigations into the Met Police, including one dating back six years, and commentary on how under-resourcing of the IOPC could be denying people justice. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/iopc-met-police-active-investigations_uk_6089ceaee4b0b9042d8df054?ki9 5/
Graeme also revealed that the government hasn't exactly fallen over itself to recover the £450m it's stumping up to fix flammable cladding wealthy developers are meant to pay for. Even more disgraceful considering how debt is criminalised if you're poor https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/cladding-funding-grenfell-recovery_uk_608723e5e4b003896e082ea7 6/
When @ChrisDYork pitched a piece months ago about how a marine zoo was rehoming all its penguins because of Covid, I didn't think we'd end up publishing it the day our own zoo closed and we too would have to find new homes. The penguins go on to great things but... 7/
... it's poignant because of who they leave behind, and the loss of the place they'd built together. So I guess it's an appropriate way to finish this soppy thread. I'm so proud to have worked with you all, but I'm gutted that we're leaving, too. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/penguins-living-coasts-folly-farm-covid_uk_606d88cfc5b6c70eccabc837?yd 8/8
