What we're seeing play out in TN and Republican legislatures across the country are racially-motivated voter suppression bills aimed at restricting power from minorities to prevent another Nov 2020 election outcome and condoning the whitelash power grab of the 1/6 Capitol siege.
TN lawmakers are seeing Black folks exert their power and they're scared. They're trying to keep us under control by passing anti-protestor bills and laws that rewrite the rules for the Courts so that groups like @EquityAlliance1 cannot sue them for their unconstitutional BS
TN and other states in the South are not red states. We're a suppressed state. You can't convince me that TN is a red state when over half of eligible voters don't vote and 420,000+ returning citizens can't vote.
Organizing in the Deep South is hard work; organizing in Tennessee is even more difficult. If we are going to give
our movement a fighting chance to win victories that remove Jim Crow’s grip on the Deep South, we must not overlook the battles being won in non-battleground states.
I recently contributed an article to the @ncbcp_bwr Black Women's Roundtable Report. "The Path to Victory in the Deep South Runs Through Tennessee" I talk about Black women organizing, attacks on democracy and how TN can be just like Georgia. Check it: http://bit.ly/bwrreport2021
