Since my life is chaos and I can& #39;t think, here is a short thread about The Great Tragedy of #rachelhollis. The NYT is right on scene to document her demise:

As someone who has read all three--ALL THREE--best selling Hollis books (Wash Your Face, Stop Apologizing, Didn& #39;t See That Coming), I feel equipped to speak about this important subject. /2
Hollis believes in a gospel of Self-Actualization. If you believe strongly enough in yourself, you will be able to achieve your dreams and desires. You must, on 1 hand, accept yourself, and, on the other, transform into your best self. /3
Hollis is important because her message shows the cracks of this false gospel. How do you deal with the fact that you& #39;re not perfect? Not good enough? And yet still "accept" yourself for who you are? She is the fault line of the shifting beliefs about the self. /4
Hollis articulates both contradictory ideas--"I& #39;m wonderful as I am" and "I must live into my full potential at all cost." /5
In a blog post long ago, I likened this to The Geico Jesus. It is not the real Jesus, but because it has some sense of "sin", or rather "failure to live up to potential" it offers a compelling narrative. /6
Fortunately for Hollis and for the World, the Real Gospel is that it& #39;s ok not to have potential of any kind. Jesus died for your sins, not so that you could work hard and make a million dollars. If you never live up to your own expectations, you can still go to heaven /7
The poorest of the earth, the crushed under the booted heal of the mighty, the disappointed, the sick, the ruined, the unhappy--all of these kinds of people when they cry out to Jesus for help can be saved and live with God for eternity /8
Actualizing yourself is not a prereq for getting into heaven. On the other hand, humbling confessing your sins unto Almighty God absolutely is. /9
If #rachelhollis would turn to Jesus, though all the world repudiates her, she could be accepted by him and transformed--not into her own idea of her potential--but into a true and living reflection of God& #39;s own image through Christ. /fin
