As excited as I am to be embarking on work with my #writementor mentees, the last two weeks have been heartbreaking too as I worked towards this decision. There were so many things I loved about all the submissions I received. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="💔" title="Gebrochenes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Gebrochenes Herz">

THREAD!
Over the next few days, I’m going to send detailed feedback to the applicants I requested fulls from.

I wish I could send a line or two of feedback to every single person that submitted to me, but with nearly 80 (https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ˜±" title="Vor Angst schreiendes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Vor Angst schreiendes Gesicht">) applications and a deadline for my own Book 2 looming,
(and a family who would really like to see a bit more of me!) I can’t offer that this year.

Maybe next year https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ€ž" title="Gekreuzte Finger" aria-label="Emoji: Gekreuzte Finger">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ€ž" title="Gekreuzte Finger" aria-label="Emoji: Gekreuzte Finger">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ€ž" title="Gekreuzte Finger" aria-label="Emoji: Gekreuzte Finger">
Please please please remember, no matter how close *I* think you are, I’m just one person, with very specific tastes. Please keep going. There was not one writer in this that can’t make it to the shelves, as long as you put in the work, and focus that work on the right things.
I know—it’s knowing what to fix that’s half the battle.

Please seek CPs if you don& #39;t have some already. Be brave and make the big changes. Really try the things CPs/betas suggest instead of thinking of all the reasons those ideas might not work. You might be surprised.
Some of you need to buckle down on sentence magic, others on story structure, others on character development. Ask yourself deeply what you think you’re better at, and read books and articles about how to improve the other thing.
For sentence magic:
When you read, highlight sentences that got you (either made you think ‘that’s beautiful’ or ‘that punched me in the gut’) Write them down in a notebook somewhere. Study them.
For story structure:
Save the Cat Writes a Novel. I can’t stress this enough.

Character Development:
Lisa Cron’s Story Genius. Also can’t stress this enough.
It has been so eye opening to be on the other side of the table. (I need to send my agent a bottle of gin and a fierce hug - here you go, @ChloeSeager https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🍾" title="Cocktailglas" aria-label="Emoji: Cocktailglas">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ«‚" title="People hugging" aria-label="Emoji: People hugging">)

I’ll be cheering every single one of you on. Keep at it. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="✍" title="Schreibende Hand" aria-label="Emoji: Schreibende Hand">
And see you next year!! https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🎉" title="Partyknaller" aria-label="Emoji: Partyknaller">
