As excited as I am to be embarking on work with my #writementor mentees, the last two weeks have been heartbreaking too as I worked towards this decision. There were so many things I loved about all the submissions I received.

Over the next few days, Iâm going to send detailed feedback to the applicants I requested fulls from.

Please please please remember, no matter how close *I* think you are, Iâm just one person, with very specific tastes. Please keep going. There was not one writer in this that canât make it to the shelves, as long as you put in the work, and focus that work on the right things.
I knowâitâs knowing what to fix thatâs half the battle.
Please seek CPs if you don& #39;t have some already. Be brave and make the big changes. Really try the things CPs/betas suggest instead of thinking of all the reasons those ideas might not work. You might be surprised.

Some of you need to buckle down on sentence magic, others on story structure, others on character development. Ask yourself deeply what you think youâre better at, and read books and articles about how to improve the other thing.
For sentence magic:
When you read, highlight sentences that got you (either made you think âthatâs beautifulâ or âthat punched me in the gutâ) Write them down in a notebook somewhere. Study them.
