It's been a crazy year with #COVID19 but let's look at the reality. Yes the virus is real & has had substantial impact, but the response can only be qualified as somewhat misguided & off the mark. Let's review:
1/10
1st, the infection fatality rate, which was initially predicted by the public health experts to be 4%. Pretty scary & would justify lockdowns. But in reality, it is 1.7%. Difference of about 1.3M lives here in the US. Pretty far off the mark. 2/10
2nd was the "co-symptoms" like Kawasaki syndrome & myocarditis which greatly impacted the treatment of our kids. Both proved to be non-factors although the impact in policy was nothing short of devastating to our kids & young adults. 3/10
3rd was ventilators. We rushed to produce thousands, only to learn they weren't the best treatment & actually caused death in some. Field hospitals, hospital ships & empty hospitals filled with tik tok-ing staff also missed the mark of predicted over-running of med system. 4/10
Now #Masks. Dewine said in June "6 weeks of masking to drive this beast to the ground", #Biden's 100 days of masking ends today. Are we taking them off? The CDC even released a study saying the impact of masking was 1.7% in spread & 1.9% in deaths. Both numbers in MOE. 5/10
The there were the #SuperSpreader events from holidays to sporting events to festivals, all foretelling impeding doom and overrunning of the healthcare system by selfish people even though no real spread has been linked to any event. 6/10
The decimation of the bar/restaurant & hospitality industry with literally no evidence that they are a source of spread. Much like schools, the shuttering of these facilities was unwarranted by any #science. 7/10
Probably the most devastating from a mental health aspect has been the notion of asymptomatic spread. It has kept our children out of schools & away from social interactions. As #Fauci said at the beginning "asymptomatic spread has never driven a pandemic" 8/10
yet all mitigation efforts we have in place aside from "if you're sick stay home" are focused on just that. Masks, social distancing, testing of the healthy, capacity restrictions all rely on asymptomatic spread to be effective, hence they are showing no real impact. 9/10
And Lastly we have the constant scare of #variants causing the head of the CDC and even the POTUS to tell us weeks ago that devastation was right around the corner.

All of this has been wrong. No accountability, no change in course for many states. No end in sight. 10/10
