Truth is a big thing for me, so I'll take some time at the laundromat explaining THE TRUTH.

Ordinary people judge if a COVID-19 vaccine is "neutralizing" if you can breathe fine. I mean if you're NOT coughing your lungs or can't get any air, it's working right?
And the way that works is that the main receptor that the virus uses to infect cells in your lungs is ACE2. ACE2 is a protein on cells in your lungs that the virus attaches to in order to get inside those lung cells.
And on the virus, there is something called the ACE2 receptor binding domain. And that's the thing that antibodies your body makes wants to stick to. If the antibody is sticking to the ACE2 RBD, the ACE2 RBD can't bind to ACE2 anymore right?
So there are two mutations in the ACE2 RBD for the Indian variant, which might actually knock out the blocking of the ACE2 binding. But there are other ways to neutralize a virus. So most people who got the vaccine will still have some other neutralizing antibodies.
Should be fine then. But maybe not. We'll see.

Those neutralizing antibodies will bind other places on the virus, but there is no guarantee your body made them sadly.

It's like playing the lottery. Exactly like it.
The problem is right here. That P681R by itself is rather problematic, but that Q1071H together with that P681R COULD be really bad. That Q1071H is right where the virus needs to bend. So...

It the virus bends less, together with that P681R, we could have a huge problem because what happens is that the virus becomes a whole new virus. It becomes a virus with no specific receptor except maybe neutropilin-1.
So instead of have half post-fusion Spike and half per-fusion Spike on a virus (24 to 48 Spikes on average), you could end up with like 75% post-fusion Spike and 25% pre-fusion Spike.

Not sure that is what is happening, but if it is...
We're pretty fucked... Because that post-fusion Spike is basically just a membrane merging protein. It doesn't care what cells it infects. Lung cells, heart cells, ovary cells, testicle cells. Anything with a membrane.

That would suck.
This is all theoretical. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

And that's the truth: I don't know.

But I'll find out for sure.

You need to keep an eye on this Indian variant and try to keep it out of your country at any costs.
And reason I started this thread talking what people consider "neutralizing" is because just because you're not coughing and you're not struggling to breathe, doesn't mean the virus isn't infecting another cell line. And if it is...
That is NOT what we would consider to be STERILIZING neutralizing immunity. And that's a problem with a virus that has already gain function that makes it more deadly and contagious. You definitely NEED to pay attention to how the Indian variant interacts with vaccinated peeps.
