One of the most disgusting and gut wrenching ways White America disproportionately disenfranchises minorities in America: A THREAD.
Step 1: By disproportionately imprisoning Black people. The facts are Black people are the highest population in prison despite being only 13% of the U.S. population. Native Americans and Hawaiian are the second and third despite only being less than 2% of the U.S. population.
Step 2: These prisoners now are moved and relocated into prisons in rural (mostly white) districts all around the U.S.
Step 3: They then use their relocation into rural white areas to legally change the residency of the prisoners to the districts that they’re imprisoned in. These rural areas make MILLIONS off of however many bodies they bring into their prisons.
Step 4: More prisoners are serving longer sentences for petty crimes, more than ever now, and they use these prisoners for… census data. Yes, they legally count the people who are in prisons for the census in whatever district they are in, even though they cannot legally vote.
Step 5: Every 10 years they calculate census data to decide how many Reps each district gets in each state. Because of these prisons, White rural districts tend to get more representation because they have “more people” in them. It’s called prison gerrymandering & it’s an issue.
They use BIPOC populations even though they cannot vote, while the communities where prisoners are coming from continue to lose representation. They’re literally stealing Democratic power from Black and Brown communities and placing it in White ones to never be used or fulfilled.
The United States “democracy” uses Black and Brown bodies without their consent in order to gain political power. THAT IS YET ANOTHER LEGAL FORM OF MODERN SLAVERY. And it’s happening everywhere… ALWAYS
