I’ve seen a lot of useful threads of advice for artists from collectors. Here is my advice for collectors from an artist.👇

#cryptoart #NFT
As the NFT Community grows and becomes more sophisticated, artists will care more and more about WHO their collectors are and not just how much their work sells for. This will be especially true of the most well-known, most exclusive artists who you want in your collection.
Over time, the gimmicks, copycats, and cash grabs will lose value. The interesting and meaningful art will appreciate. The challenge is figuring out what’s meaningful.
Don’t be afraid to reach out to artists for our expertise. Some of us have been in art for decades. We know the trends. We know the history. We know who’s creating truly original art & who’s regurgitating Video Copilot tutorials. A hashtag does not an Original Content Artist make
Be humble. Don’t be afraid to admit what you don’t know. Wealth does not automatically make someone an art expert. (Nor does artistic talent make anyone an expert in finance). Be curious and eager to learn.
Reputation and trust matter just as much for collectors as for artists, if not more. If you buy my piece as an investment, your risk is limited to the ETH you spent on the piece. Meanwhile, I’m putting my career in your hands. Why? 👇
If you display my piece in a collection full of gimmicky art, that diminishes my value. If you get in a pinch and sell my piece at a loss, that reduces the value of my entire body of work. Protect your reputation, and artists will want to be a part of your collection.
If a random collector buys my piece for 5 ETH, I get… 5 ETH. If a well-known collector buys my piece for 5 ETH and displays alongside pieces from exclusive artists, my value goes up by far more than the price of the transaction.
Add value. This could mean teaching artists about crypto or finance or marketing. It could mean helping promote their work and tell their stories. Most artists are looking for more than a sale when they connect with collectors. Be a patron.
Please RT if any of this has been helpful to you. Disagree? Comment and let me know. Artists and collectors have a lot to learn from one another. Let’s get started!
