1) Picking a good NY Mayor it’s connected to several things. One of those things is Voting Rights. This will be the first time we’re electing our Mayor with early voting. Meaning families that previously couldn’t get off time off from work can now participate in our election. https://twitter.com/morninggloria/status/1387895635131596800
1a) FYI New Yorkers: The primary is set for June 22, 2021.
The deadline to register to vote is Friday, May 28 and early voting begins on Saturday, June 12. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is June 15. https://www.thecity.nyc/22233447/what-you-need-to-know-now-about-the-2021-elections-in-new-york-city

2)Then there was the disenfranchisement of those on parole. They did not have their Voting Rights automatically restored until this April when the NY State Legislature passed a bill to automatically restore their voting rights thanks in large part to the work of @VOCALNewYork

3)Then their is Automatic voter Registration which was passed into law in 2020 but won’t go into effect before 2023. Access issues to Voter registration often gets in the way of voter participation. Read about that here: https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/automatic-voter-registration-summary
4)Then of course there is name recognition which plays an outsized role in election (e.g“yeah I’ve heard of them, maybe they’re good? I’ll vote for them.”) Currently Yang has the most name recognition but that can change depending on debates/media coverage https://www.monmouth.edu/polling-institute/2019/06/24/its-all-about-name-recognition-folks/
5) Then there are the costs of the Mayoral election. If you don’t have deep money pocket connections “a good mayoral candidate” might have a harder time and a tougher climb to reach voters and garner name recognition. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2021/01/15/nyregion/mayor-money-campaign-nyc.amp.html
6) p.s. @morninggloria States that elect Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan for Governor can’t come after New Yorkers and our mayors without a little bit of self reflection.
