It's fascinating how ufology trends of the 1980s mirror the Satanic Panic:

•Satanic Ritual Abuse = Abduction
•Intergenerational trauma
•Underground tunnels at McMartin and Dulce
•Government collusion or cover-ups
The abuse in SRA is eerily similar to the abduction experience: shadowy groups abducting and assaulting victims, often as part of bizarre breeding rituals.
Satanists and aliens both allegedly engage in intergenerational abuse: in Michelle Remembers, Michelle Smith is inducted into a cult by her family, while in Intruders, Budd Hopkins describes how "Kathie Davis" and her family (notably her son) are all abductees.
The two most notorious cases, the McMartin daycare scandal and the Dulce base, involve underground tunnels. In 1980, alien abductee Myrna Hansen described escaping her captors at Dulce via tunnels; four years later, children at McMartin described being transported in tunnels.
All theories culminate in government cover-ups. Both Paul Bennewitz and Bill Cooper alleged government collusion with aliens, and Bill Moore "revealed" a secret gov program called Majestic-12. John DeCamp picked up this thread for SRA, accusing George H.W. Bush of Satanic abuse.
Obviously not saying these claims validate each other, just that's it's interesting how similar stories manifest across paranormal/supernatural beliefs in a given time period.
