A Thread...

1/ Don’t listen to social media experts! Seriously don’t, they sprout all sorts of crap that gets you nowhere, for verification, check their posts, chances are they’re getting no love, that’s because they use the same boring dribble tweets...over and over again

2/ Be yourself, sounds obvious, but fall for the tactics above and you’ll end up a repetitive robot getting as far as them crap spreaders. Be true, be authentic, be you.

3/ Hashtags, use what you like, but bear in mind the more you use, the more spammy you look. Twitter isn’t going to reward you with lots of engagement if you look like a spammer.

4/ Hashtag hours, these are great for social media engagement and for building up alliances with others within your industry, but they vary rarely bring in sales as people are too busy chatting and networking to click off to your page. Use them wisely, don’t use them exclusively.

5/ Don’t be a whinge bag, it’s completely off putting to see some whining post about something not going their way, it’s Twitter, save your whinny behaviour for your Facebook status.

6/ Use images over a link image. Upload an image first, write a glorious tweet and then add your link, Twitter loves media, Twitter hates link droppers, again it’s spammy.

7/ Schedule tweets, your customers are available online 24/7, so schedule some tweets for them to see whilst you’re sleeping.

8/ Follower numbers mean jack shit if you’re not getting engagement, stop focusing on numbers, focus on engagement instead, that’s what Twitter loves. Don’t be that person with 20K followers and gets 3 retweets, it’s not a good look.

9/ Follow trends, search the trending section, be relevant with a tweet and you’ll get a higher level of engagement, don’t spam unrelated nonsense on a trending hashtag, it’s not a good look.

10/ Have fun, social media can be a rough ride, if it’s not fun, make it fun, remember you can block, mute (even mute retweets) to make Twitter a more enjoyable place for you.
