Somehow my work email was added to a U of Toronto Alumni mailing list; I haven't bothered to unsubscribe even though I don't plan to ever do anything they ask me to do. Still, as someone who coordinates email campaigns, I'm fascinated that they send me emails at 4:34 am. Why?
I mean, I do understand the idea that an early morning email ends up at the top of someone's inbox when they check their mail in the morning, but 4:34 am is actually so early that it gets buried under other emails employing the same tactic.
Meanwhile, an email that arrives at 4:34 am screams, "No human being pressed the send button. This is scheduled spam." I'm not saying I require a human being to physically hit send on emails I receive, but I certainly pay more attention when it's possible that happened.
Returning to this thread that no one but me cares about, I just stumbled across this graphic on Reddit (credit to /u/Quaz5) that illustrates beautifully what I am talking about when it comes to the weirdness of a 4:34 am email:
