i really dont think we as humans would be able to process finding out there's other intelligent life in the universe. we wouldn't be able to process that at ALL and i think we'd all go insane with the weight of it
the thing that haunts me watching #Invincible is that Omni Man, according to his perception of being and the cultural customs of his planet, views humans on Earth like how humans view ant hills. So *is* he wrong for what he did? Well, yes, but according to who?
when i say "according to who?" i mean that whether or not Omni Man is a bad person or a hero or good or bad depends on whether you're a Viltrumite like him or someone from earth or elsewhere.
And I dont think we as a human race are prepared to interact with beings from other planets and galaxies because OUR idea of good and bad and right and wrong and family and whatever else could be NOTHING EVEN CLOSE to how another lifeform would view it.
just think about how finding out about extraterrestrial life would literally upend so many systems on earth. monotheistic religion? done. defense programs/spending? what do you even do? we'd be in no way prepared to fend off an alien invasion if one happened
just to be clear im not an Omni Man apologist. that dude is a kind of evil I'm still struggling to grapple with. his behavior just made me wonder if the people on this planet are ready for the very real possibility that if aliens are real they'd have no issue washing us
theres a LOT of philosophical things to consider when thinking about whether or not extraterrestrial life is out there. its not just as simple as "we're not alone in the universe". there's sooooo much more to it than that.
