I am a Jew and also a Gooner. (Arsenal fan).

The fact that I am both appears to cause "confusion" for many is symptomatic of the level of bigotry which has escalated in society and which is as a natural consequence, reflected on social media.

That's the tip of the iceberg.

1/
In sport, as in all walks of life, bigotry continues unabated.

My experience as a Jew on Twitter is impacted on a daily basis by seeing sentiments so hateful, so twisted that there appears to be a vacuum of empathy or even humanity.

Imagine that.

Every. Single. Day.

2/
You would think perhaps social media platforms would be keen to take a stand against such baseless hatred? To remove accounts propagating bigotry against people in respect of any of nine characteristics identified in statute in the UK (The Equality Act of 2010) and beyond.

3/
You would think accounts challenging such vile behaviour would be empowered in this valuable work.

On both counts, you would be wrong.

Irrespective of lip–service, social media platforms are interested in one thing only, at best: multi-billion dollars advertising revenue.

4/
At best.

At worst, it appears that the very accounts challenging bigotry are banned; leaving those revelling in it to peddle their toxic verbiage.

Such is the case with @GnasherJew.

Nothing upsets an antisemite more than Jews who are prepared to stand against bigotry.

This weekend, I would ask you to join me in observing the Premier League initiative, in maintaining silence on social media, from 15:00 this afternoon until 23:59 on Monday.

After that, be as loud and proactive as you can in challenging the consistent spouting of hatred.

6/
Support those accounts who seek not selectively, but unilaterally to challenge and call out bigotry.

Accounts like @GnasherJew.

If you feel that such accounts should be entitled to stand against this vile hatred, respond below, in support of the letter posted.

Watch this video:

… then make YOUR voice heard, in the protest.

Observe the silence and then demand that @GnasherJew and other accounts fighting and exposing hatred on a daily basis be enabled to do so.

Simply respond "Count me in" below.
