A few years ago while he was working for Zee News, Rohit Sardana spoke at a dialogue exchange programme, ironically named, "Responsible Journalism for Nation Building". He said he had no qualms acknowledging that his job was similar to that of a "salesman". 1/n
Minutes later, he added: "The audience is currently buying Manohar Kahaniya (pulp fiction), therefore we are selling it. The day they ask for Pratiyogita Darpan, we will put that in the market." 2/n
Sardana moved to Aaj Tak but that "Pradiyogita Darpan" moment never arrived. With time, TV journalism got more toxic, loud & horrible. Eight of the ten debates spread vicious propaganda against India's Muslims and Sardana became an active participant in this game. 3/n
A vast majority felt emboldened listening to him. In him, they saw an articulate man who could say what they always wanted to. It's okay if you don't want to gloat over a genocide-enabler's death, but stop selling yourself as morally upright. 4/n
While his colleagues pay rich tributes to him, let them not befool you. He demonised Muslims every single night and referred to them as terrorists and Corona bombs. He called farmers protesting against the new farm laws "khalistanis". 5/n
He randomly asked people to go to Pakistan just because they disagreed with him. I can go on and on and on. And honestly, there is no other way to put it. This and only this is his legacy. 6/6
