this is a rambley thinking out loud thread about dsmp tommy so if u like his character read this. i have no coherent thoughts so this is the result

everytime i think about dsmp tommy i get Sad. like really, inexpliciply sad. it feels like a heavy heavy weight on my chest that his trauma power creep has less than ideal pacing

if u dont know what power creep is, essentially its a term to describe "levelling up" a threat in a fictional universe. an example is like, starting the show w fighting aliens and by the end youre fighting the entire universe

i have a lot of to say about dsmps power creep in general, but im using this term specifically in tommy's ....hardships...because thats kinda what it is. more shit happens to him and the story has to find crazier and crazier ways to up the antie with his trauma

we went from war -> kicked out of country -> pogtopia... -> 11/16 -> exile (YIIIIKES!) -> bedrock bros betrayal -> doomsday ,...., -> DISC FINALE? -> HES LOCKED IN PRISON WITH DREAM? -> HE FUCKIN DIED????? -> HES BAAACK????????? -> WILBUR IS FUCKING BACK?????

its like. ultimately, theres only so much he can take. i think that above paragraph is a gross oversimplification of it, even if im trying to shorten it down, because attempting to even shorten what dsmp tommys had to deal with feels like a disservice

my main concern here is that dsmp already went dbz with his power creep. he fucking Died and Came Back To Life by the hands of his abuser in a room full of his triggers in the most awful way possible. you legitimately cannot get higher than that without doing...fucked shit

wilbur coming back was the only single worst thing that could happen to him after that, aaaaand guess where we're at now. i'm very fucking excited personally but in terms of tommys character i am just waiting until smth else happens to him and i go. man. i feel bad for you

revivebur opens up a door that we havent had previously, yadaaa yada i talk so much about that already though. i think i am simply concerned for how dsmp tommys development is going cause sometimes they gotta dial it baaackk

dsmp tubbo is the only other character that has just had Shit happen to him, and ive talked about that at length - i think more what sucks about dsmp tommy is that he just CONSTANTLY takes losses. there are zero dubs inbetween that agonizing trauma he faces

to be fair. the entire point of dsmp tommy is that he just takes those massive massive L's all the time and the appeal of his character is the resiliency he has to fight back, but dude can only bounce back enough times. hes losing what he needs to fight for now

again i just feel bad for him. im mostly talking out of my ass here because its 4am and my eyes are closing as i type this but i have dsmp thoughts and i absolutely must share them with the world
