On the IMF & World Bank, @KateAronoff notes: 'these institutions meet the needs of a world that no longer exists', and that, 'The United States has veto power over certain decisions these bodies make. To make good on its Paris goals, it should use it'

Crucially, despite saying it will end support for 'carbon-intensive fossil-fuel based energy overseas', the Biden Administration has yet to clarify how this will apply to it's voice and vote at the World Bank and other MDBs (an important test): https://twitter.com/JonSward/status/1385252733205295104?s=20

Civil society has already called for the World Bank to come up with a credible plan to end support for fossil fuels, and increase resources for a just energy transition 👉 https://www.brettonwoodsproject.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Open-letter-to-World-Bank-President-David-Malpass-and-World-Bank-leadership_FINAL_153.pdf

We'd welcome @ClimateEnvoy's support for a #FossilFreeWBG

World Bank management will doubtless tell @ClimateEnvoy and @SecYellen that it still needs to fund #FossilGas to achieve energy access aims. CSO research has found 75% of WBG gas investments since the Paris Agreement were in Cs without access deficits, including 33% in G20 🤔

5/
In cases where the WBG is funding #FossilGas in energy poor countries, it's unclear whether it is: (a) ensuring that further household connections (the main metric for #EnergyAccess under SDG7) are a key component; (b) whether WBG support for gas is crowding out renewables

6/
In the case of the IMF, support from @SecYellen and US Treasury is needed as the Fund seeks to integrate climate into its Article IV surveillance, including in the Comprehensive Surveillance Review that will come before the IMF Board in mid-May: https://twitter.com/JonSward/status/1385271108732137472?s=20
