don’t’s korean subtitle is “그러지 마” which means “don’t be like that.” one of the lyrics namjoon sung is also “stop, this isn’t like you.” i think that aside from that desperation to make someone stay, it’s also about being confused as to what changed to make them want to leave
aside from that, if you think about it, usually when you’re confused when things like this happens, you get angry. but this song? it’s calm but cold. it’s so lonely. it’s like being at that stage where you’re just hanging by a thread and you can feel yourself fading away.
it’s like when namjoon said “still as a pebble, could you stay.” he knows there’s nothing left because pebbles don’t stay still. at this point he just knows that the person won’t ever come back yet still begs them to stay. it’s so PAINFUL.
they’re just TIRED from begging someone to stay because they just keep going and have no intention of coming back, which eaeon & namjoon don’t understand because “they weren’t like that” so they’re just desperately chasing, with very little hope something can still change
this leads me to the think that the humming at the end are short breaths from chasing someone who don’t want to come back. “don’t” as a title alone is genius because it both means “don’t go” and “don’t be like that” (like the person who would go away from me. “this is not you.”)
at this point, i'm just spiraling and if i go on, i'll never stop. stream don't on youtube, spotify, apple music, and all platforms available to you to do so.
