My new philosophy on youtube. I've held back on my "brashness" let's call it, in order to make sure I'm palatable in some capacity. I actually don't give a shit anymore, starting now. This was something I was already thinking about...
But I don't make money off of it anyway, I wish I did, but I dont, so I'm just happy I give people who actually enjoy my content a little bit of joy. That being said there's no need to hold back. Another thing that motivates this...
Is how retarded the retro game community is. I know I base my channel off games but I can't stomach ever saying I'm part of ANY community. I'm Patrick and I just happen to appreciate good game design and art. I'm my own person and seeing elitist snobs...
fighting over how you play games is a dick measuring competition. Even people that are good resources like Voultar have this aura of pretentiousness. Or you get the vanilla safe youtuber retro game "consuuumer" that has a room that looks like they robbed a nintendo amusement park
If you like retro games, you don't have to be a stereotype to the hobby. You don't need to own a pvm to impress your reddit "friends" and it's totally fine if you're content with a raspberry pi.
People want to fit in so bad (in every clique/ community) that they for go a complex and multilayered personality for a walking stereotype to said group of their choosing. You become a parrot.
Here's an off the cuff take, the new retrotink 5x is too expensive. Yes I know the frame meister costed more on release and does less than the 5x, but try convincing anyone other than a retro enthusiasts to cough up 300 bucks
that's not including the cost of cables such as scart, hd retrovison component cables, splitters, you're paying more than 400-500 bucks when you can get a new console for that price. This is why people gravitate towards pi's
And look, I'm sure mike put a lot of blood sweat and tears into the 5x, indie devs have to, I wouldn't be surprised if the cost is justified, But 300 bucks is still a lot.
This thread went in 50 directions, I don't expect anyone to read this shit, or like it for that matter, but what ever gaming path you choose, just be real about it. Don't be snob and you don't have to always agree with said "experts" or vanilla take youtubers. The End. 😓
