Listening to the Rosanna Arquette interview of Laila M*cklewait and taking notes. Apparently L pushes for banning porn at the UN. Says her mission is âmake the world a better place, especially for those who are facing injustice.â Interesting how that mission excludes sex workers.
Another aspect that I think is really interesting is in the two examples L cites at the top. Both were teenagers who took pictures of themselves which the recipients then uploaded to pornhub. In both cases the trauma was in the embarrassment and stigma of being seen naked/sexual.
In one case a teenage boy kept sending more porn to his abuser bc the abuser threatened to tell his mom about the photos heâd already taken. Now what kind of reality have we created that the boy would feel ashamed in that scenario?
When police, parents, and teachers tell kids not to take naked pictures of themselves, what theyâre saying is that itâs your fault if someone violates you by sharing them. It teaches teenagers to feel like theyâre at fault. Like they screwed up. Which is completely bass ackwards!
Then of course thereâs the aspect that teenagers say they feel suicidal and drop out of school bc theyâre naked on the internet. Again, what kind of culture are we cultivating that a person would feel like a naked picture of them means life isnât worth living?
The fact that itâs illegal for a teenager to take a naked selfie sends the clear message that doing so is immoral and shameful. But itâs not! Whatâs immoral and shameful is violating someoneâs trust. There is nothing wrong (or unusual, to be clear) with taking a naked selfie.
The other thing I want to mention is that everything L said about pornhubâs business model and previous uploading policies is true of Facebook as well, where thereâs many times more CSAM. The only difference is PH until recently allowed downloads.
And ohmygod do I hate to defend or seem to defend Mindgeek but everything she says they said about her is absolutely true! She does lie. She is on a moral crusade. I love how Mindgeekâs leadershipâs secrecy is presented. Someone literally just burned down the pornhub CEOâs house
RA claims child sex trafficking is the worldâs largest industry, bigger than the global drug trade and L agreed. Like she canât go 20 min into a single interview without a frankly insultingly obvious complete fabrication.
âAny minor that is involved in a commercial sex act is a victim of human trafficking by definition.â Any definition of child sex trafficking that must include any instance of teenage revenge porn is not a useful definition.
L claims children are exposed to porn that is âhardcore and violent often.â 1. The average age a boy first encounters porn is 13. 2. Porn is actually not âoftenâ violent. Violent porn makes up a very small % of porn and itâs definitely not what porn sites surface to new visitors
Listen Iâm with you that itâs fucked that online porn is most American kidsâ only sex Ed. And whose fault is that? Oh right, itâs the direct result of lobbying by evangelicals like L.
Guys this is so painful to listen to. This is an act of love. A tremendous self-sacrifice. I want to joke that itâs so you can jack off to porn. But people actually think that is true. Iâm doing this bc Iâm (like everyone else) against sex abuse. Banning porn creates more of it
RA: âGet AOC involved in this.â AOC (along with the ACLU, Amnesty International, etc.) supports decriminalizing sex work to reduce human trafficking you dumb cunt.
