Today i finished paying the RAV4 I bought for my parents. While it& #39;s certainly a milestone to have paid off my parents& #39; first dealership car (they drove a salvaged Corolla & #39;95), it also reminds me of the horrible experience i had at the dealership.

Here& #39;s what what happened:
With my first salaried job, i knew i wanted to provide a much-needed car for my parents. After various research, i ended up deciding that a nearby dealership was the okay move for my parents to experience a semi-new car.

I went to the dealer with my parents, tested some cars...
and when they ran our credit, options were limited, but we did opt for the 2018 RAV4 with 30k miles. As the dealer prepared a plan, i phoned my uncle (who had helped his four sons purchase their car) to get some guidance on what the hell was GAP insurance and everything else.
Dealership didn& #39;t like that. Guy who ran my credit said i was insulting his work by not blindly trusting him & getting a second opinion. My uncle was on his way but the credit guy said, "if someone else comes in and wants to buy it, you& #39;re okay with losing the deal?" I said yes.
My uncle came in after an hour of us just waiting. He looked at the contract, said we didn& #39;t need a bunch of stuff (it was cheaper from a 3rd party). Saved me around $15k.

Once he said it was an okay deal, they moved me to the head of sales office. My uncle went to the RR...
My parents were there, but they had never dealt with dealerships, so they mostly followed my uncle& #39;s lead. As I sat down to sign and my uncle was still in the restroom, i asked the Head of Sales if it was okay to wait for my uncle to sign...
She harshly replied, "can& #39;t do anything without your uncle, huh? He makes all your decisions for you?" as she looked at my parents.

I didn& #39;t know what to say except, "I& #39;m waiting either way." Uncle came back, he approved, i signed, & we drove off with our 1st ever dealership car
My takeaways are simple:
• don& #39;t let people make you think less of yourself
• stand firm with your gut
• always get a second opinion, especially if they& #39;re more knowledgeable about it
• don& #39;t buy from dealerships...
