Mcyttwt, we need to talk. I’ve gotten multiple opinions and views on this community from many people. I’ll @ them below but please take time to read and rt this thread!!
Other poc!!
To start off, let’s discuss to problems Asians face in this community as I got @araexe @cl0wnism and @RANB00B opinions on it :)
“problems asians face on a daily basis follow them everywhere. incl mcyttwt and i don’t rlly think there’s any specific treatment towards asians that falls outside “the usual”. but i think that white mcyttwt just tends to speak over minority issues and drown minority voices out”+
+ “and refuse to educate themselves further on any topic and blindly retweet whatever they see. performative activism and just insensitivity and general ignorance towards asians and honestly any other poc” as said from @cl0wnism
“society overall is another can of worms that pours into everything, but something I've noticed is a lack of animosity on asian issues. thankfully there's been a kick-up but theres no lasting change. (ex: the murder of christian hall) theres also the way that asian culture is” +
+ “used as a trend. I've had completely respectful mutuals who thought the language was beautiful and put it in their carrds, and that's not what i mean. the apathy that some people show then turning their back and consume what we create is what im most tired of. as a whole, we”+
+ “arent taken seriously as poc. that's why the minority myth is so toxic. it generalizes asians into a monolith of upper class lightskinned east asians, when we are such a broad spectrum of identities. thankfully i've never been verbally attacked in the community but ig theres”+
+ “a general air of apathy from potential allies that feels a little insulting” as said from @RANB00B
“i’d say a lot of stuff happened with asian hate crime due to the pandemic, like a lot of south asian are getting attacked for “starting the corona virus” and also the fact that muslims still get categorized as terrorists is a few of the things i can think about rn” +
“the fact there’s also a bunch of stereotypes that are based towards asians like how muslims are terrorists and how chinese’s people eat dogs, these are some examples of hurtful stereotypes that aren’t even true. as well as people just categorizing asia to just south asian”+
+”people. i feel like some people forget that pakistani, indian, cambodian people etc.. are all asian. adding onto the asian hate crimes, the fact that a bunch of asian people are getting targeted and are being called racial slurs and are getting beat up over things that they”+
+”didn’t even cause is just disheartening. another thing that’s just genuinely messed up is the amount of culture appropriation that happens (ie: shein selling prayer rugs as “ decorative mats” and people using chopsticks to tie up their hair)” as said by @araexe
Now moving on to the problems latine / Hispanic people face.
“i think stereotypes is one because most people think that most hispanics are always eating tacos or stuff like that” as said by @qtgnflol
“I've seen some white/non-hispanic people say words quackity has said but in a really mocking tone with an over-exaggerated accent, and they've made racist jokes towards us because quackity says them. And there's also cosplays of Mexican dream with traditional clothing like” +
+ “ponchos and sombreros and it's just blatantly disrespectful because we're just seen as "tacos and burritos" :/ though this is only what I personally have witnessed in the community” as said by @lukakkero
“i feel like a lot of people use these certain micro aggressions against us thinking its an innocent joke when theyre kinda just reinforcing stereotypes, yk?? another thing is the racism against us, going from telling us to speak english bc we’re in america and mocking the” +
+”cholo accents/thicker accents, telling us to go back to our country. especially the last one bc for someone that was born in the US and currently lives in the US people tell me that a lot.” As said by @lixluvbea
“the Edgar haircut thing, hot Cheeto girl, “tóxica” thing, we all talk fast, we’re all too loud, sexualization of latines, mocking the chili accent, white people wanting to be Mexican, non-Hispanic / latines anting to have quinceañeras” as said by @prkrfilm
“A lot of ppl like to put stereotypes and always think we are of one kind of way. Something else i can notice is when people just don't care about our problems and always ignore us and how perfomative sometimes the community is.
How people always like to speak for/over us.” +
+ as said by @meowqnfie
“i think alot of xenophobia, racism, and in immigration thats whole issue in itself. with immigration i can take sometimes 20 years to get papers or a green card. the wall thing in 2016, that created a whole bunch of xenophobia for south americans. my people came her for good” +
“lives, but people only saw us as drug dealers. poc latines go through even more xenophobia and racism because of their races. some examples of this are blatant colorism (which is alao a problem in the latine community): and hurting our paleteros and the people who sell food and”
“snacks on the street. in media its the representation. like maids, gangsters, cholos, or rancheros. usually its darker skinned latinas who play maids, like indigenous and black latinas. yes there are cholos irl, but there’s more to them then drugs. chicanos and cholos are”+
“represented the same when they’re completely different things. chicanos share more pride with their heritage. but cholos ARE gangsters. going back to immigration: our people get separated from their families. under obamas administration the families were held together, but”+
“now they are all separated. and most legal immigrants dont have all the necessary work papers and things they need. like social securities. and higher ups take this as an advantage. and they give them these jobs that dont pay well, and are overtly racist towards them. and most”+
“times they dont raise that pay. and they’re threatened because they cant go for legal services because they dont have required papers. with child immigrants they can get daca or be dreamers. but for a reason they took this away for a bit. then these kids need to go to lawyers”+
“to get it fixed. problems with this is that its not permanent. and even with a lawyer it is an entire process that takes years. i know someone who had this happen (a daca recipient) , and if they went to mexico for the lawyers: it would be difficult to come back.”+
+ as said from @plutolives
“i am white passing so i definitely don't get most of the problems that the usual latine / hispanic people go through. as i have a younger sister who definitely is less white passing as me, she has gone through many situations of people commenting about drugs, criminal activity”+
“going back to her country. as i am 100% sure the community goes through those comments as well. another thing i get on social media is when i say my family is mexican how my grandma came to the us to give her children a better life people have the audacity to comment how i'm”+
“not hispanic or i don't look latine” as said from @sourdrives
“it’s a stereotype i’ve seen people say that quackity is white like genuinely, a little bit ago i was looking at art and people were like whys quackity so white and someone in the comments pulled up a picture of him and said well he isn’t kinda white that’s just him being pale.”+
“i’ve had people irl tell me that i’m white like other mexican kids tell me i’m white and when i see it here it’s so fucking invalidating. something else, i hate when people try and be saviors when they try and drag a cc for saying “mi gusta” or something like that. first off,”+
“you don’t speak for us all and you shouldn’t even be trying to be a savior if you’re not even mexican. second off, there are honestly bigger fucking problems. if the person isn’t mocking us or saying it in a derogatory way, then to me personally it doesn’t matter. also another”+
“thing is that why is quackity always being stereotyped that’s just so wrong” as said by @woahitsash_
“first of all, people have us as a joke and i have seen many tweets talking about how this is quackity’s fault for making stereotypes and i am so disgusted with that, mcyttwt clearly doesn’t give a fuck about us and how bad these stereotypes are, an prefer to talk shit about a”+
+”victim, one of us, before acknowledging that their favs commit mistakes. we have quackity as a representation of all the latine community and how people treat him is disgusting. i have seen a repetitive excuse: “quackity does this types of jokes" or "his brand have this jokes"+
+”and i understand part of that but white stans fail to realize that even if it is part of his character or a joke, this jokes gives us a stupid stereotypes that have made many peoples lives awful. for example: times i have been in usa, polices have been more suspicious about us”
“when they find out we are from Latin. and even i have experienced physical violence in usa because of that, with people telling me and i quote "you make our country worse" so even if it is a joke, mcyttwt have to understand that this joke is really harmful” @villaindrift
Lastly, we will discuss the problems black people face in this community. As well as poc in general!
“Because of white people's performative activism everytime a black person gets offended and calls out either a stan acc or a cc people immediately call it "cancel culture" and dismiss it as twt drama instead of taking us seriously” as said by @bareApopera123
“I think poc are overshadowed by white people a lot, this is really a general statement but it can especially be applied to this community too bc all the ccs are white and it’s damn near impossible for me to find other poc accs but so easy to find white ppl on the front pages”+
“and just right in your face yk + they always speak over us when their opinions aren’t needed or just downright irrelevant and that annoys me and many other poc to no end.”+
“In general, I just feel like we always get gaslighted by ppl who don’t go through what we go through and bc they can’t understand, they just accuse of lying or overacting when we try to speak on certain topics (more of a elaboration on how they speak over us or when not needed)”
As said by @gogysmistress
“Ok so here's my opinions on how we get treated: threads and bad stuff resurfaces only when its for brownie points or to call out someone who is in the spotlight. our issues are weaponized, talked about in an hour or so and then everyone forgets
ESPECIALLY when its their fav who”
“does racist shit or something that harms any poc. That fav gives an apology and everything is resolved for them as if it was a 10 minute thing”+
“Speaking on latino issues and stuff, people don't understand how hurtful is that they dont get educated on actual issues going on”+
“the amount of threads people make educating the community that get ignored is awful”+
“a thing that also bothers me is that people tend to care about these issues only when it happens to quackity and barely rt or share about more issues” as said by @probablylonny
“not only arabs, but i think that just in general, people are so ignorant of issues happening in our own country - same goes for many others. people, especially those who are not poc, will only tweet about an issue just for a banger tweet for a few hours then it's forgotten”+
“about. there's always this kind of worry we get when participating in the community, like selfie days. people subconsciously judge and ignore pocs almost all the time and it's so so frustrating. another thing is that in real life, people assume i speak a certain language, have”+
“ a certain birth country and so on; it's kind of concerning how many people have asked me where i'm from” as said by @maddie4k
As for my opinion on this community, it will be in a different thread as I actually have a lot of input. But thank you all for helping me make this thread!!
