The new Australian curriculum will only teach multiplication tables in year 4 (when kids are 9/10 years old). Australia is dumbing itself down SO much that I am tempted to set up a school in competition with this curriculum. I would teach multiplication
2. and division, addition and subtraction gradually from kindergarten and would do it using set theory. Amazing how simple things can be made when kids understand WHY as well as HOW things are being done. Sorry to say, but Soviet Russia had a better maths curriculum.
I'd also
3. teach kids how to read music at the same time - music and maths are linked (transposition is a gateway to algebra).
