Laylatul Qadr;

A thread:
What is Laylatul Qadr?

Laylatul Qadr has been translated into “The Night of Power” or “The Night of Destiny”
it is an honourable and auspicious night, upon which the Qur’an was first revealed.
The Qur’an describes this night as:

‘better than a thousand months’.

Qur’an 97:3
Aisha (ra) reported:

With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work harder) and used to pray the whole night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers.

When is Laylatul Qadr?

This blessed night can be found in any of the last ten nights of Ramadan. There are a a variety of opinions as to which day it falls on but, to be on the safe side, we should commit to performing extra acts of worship on all ten nights...
By doing so we will not only gain more reward but we’ll not risk missing this blessed night.
What are the rewards of Laylatul Qadr?

Abu Hurayrah relates that The Prophet (saw) said:

‘Whoever stands (in the voluntary night prayer of) Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven...
And whoever spends the night of Laylatul Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven’.

Any action done on this night such as reciting the Qur’an and remembering Allāh, is better on this night than doing these same actions for a thousand months.
What should I do on Laylatul Qadr?

1. Memorize the Best dua of the last 10 nights:

الْلَّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibb al-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni

(O Allah, You are forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).
2. There are 4 things you can do every night to guarantee a chunk of reward on Laylatul Qadr:

a. Recite a portion of the Qur’an

b. Keep a lot of dhikr, and ask du’aa

c. Pray tahajjud

d. Give a portion of sadaqah every night, however much you can afford...
Break down a big note into ten equal parts to give each night. That small note will be worth unimaginable amounts in the akhirah!
3. Prepare for I’tikaf:

If you’re going to be spending it at the masjid, pack the essentials, and pack light. These are meant to be spiritual days, so there is little that you need.
Do NOT pack any electronics, even if you mean to do good with them
and listen to lectures or the Qur’an. Our nafs gives in too easily and gets distracted.
The key is to minimize distractions as much as possible, so even downgrade to a basic phone with no social media or data if possible.
4.Prepare a list of Du’aa and Put Your Heart Into It:

Prepare YOUR du’aa list. It should be short and concise, and what you ask Allāh for daily and sincerely.
Do not copy paste others’ lists, no matter how beautiful they are. Make them a part of your general du’aas...
but make sure you have your special list too, where you ask Allah for things that you really really want, sincerely from the bottom of your heart.
5. Eating lightly:

The more you eat, the harder it will be for you to stay up and the less productive you will be!
“It’s better than a 1000 months” means that any act you do is like doing it every single moment for more than 83 years.
Most of us don’t live up to the age of 83, and we definitely don’t spend every single moment of our lives in worship.
This is such an AMAZING opportunity to get what we would never be able to get otherwise.
