I just finished watching Tim Scott's response. Turned it off last night. Let me say: as the daughter raised by a single mom in the Deep South, and a Christian raised in the Black Church, I am disgusted by the theology he espoused. He ain't talking 'bout my Jesus.
Black men espousing terrible white evangelical theology to countenance the racism of the GOP will not win the day either. Those of us who are radical left people of faith have something to say about the sins of white supremacy, capitalism, patriarchy and homophobia.
And even based on what he believes, grace attends to you once you repent. We just had a violent white supremacist coup attempt 3 months ago! White folks (most of em) ain't repented. And Tim Scott, with his Black self, ain't Jesus, which is to say, he cannot offer absolution
All this to say: I believe in God, and I believe in Grace. But I also know a misguided Black man who thinks the white man's theological ice is colder when I see one. And I wish Tim Scott had sense enough to be ashamed of himself, but he doesn't. #BlessHisHeart
Let me put it in biblical terms: Tim Scott did not rightly divide the word of truth. He got folks out here thinking that God is on the side of the racists, voter suppressors, coup attempters, etc. But God is not a white supremacist. No matter what koolaid Tim Scott may have drunk
And let me say it in Bible like the folks who raised me: I rebuke him. He's a liar and the truth ain't in him. And: us radical folk got praying mamas and grandmamas too. That is all.
