A story of how propaganda works:
Two years ago, a certain Lisa Littman did a descriptive study that was essentially a glorified survey of parents who didn& #39;t like that their children were trans. In it, she coined the term "rapid-onset gender dysphoria," which basically amounts...
Two years ago, a certain Lisa Littman did a descriptive study that was essentially a glorified survey of parents who didn& #39;t like that their children were trans. In it, she coined the term "rapid-onset gender dysphoria," which basically amounts...
... to saying that minors are getting gender dysphoria from their peers and the Internet (this should already be raising alarms, by the way).
At the time, a number of trans people dug deep into the study and basically pointed out that it was a glorified survey of parents...

... integrity, and so a bunch of people who I genuinely believe are not transphobic fell for it and jumped in to defend the publication of the study, claiming that the scientific process would correct the problem by itself much like in other fields.
But by then, it was too late. The anti-trans movement started using the very fancy-sounding ROGD as though it were a genuine, clinically validated diagnosis, and it keeps rearing its ugly head in more mainstream outlets every now and then because... well... people sometimes...
... fall for unscientific sciencey-sounding things and it& #39;s remarkably easy to believe that "tRaNs aCtiViSts aTtAcKeD sCiEnCe aNd oBjECtIve fAcTs."

Meanwhile, we had all the actual medical organizations that specialize in healthcare for trans youth and their guidelines available, but it turns out that to people who are already predisposed against trans people, a glorified survey serving as justification for prejudice is...
... somehow more scienc-y than, y& #39;know, the actual work done on improving the lives and outcomes of trans youth. So you end up with people repeating absolute falsities like "I don& #39;t have anything against trans people, but nowadays they tell boys who like dolls that they& #39;re...
... actually girls." And now here we are.
tl;dr This is a story of how people got played and didn& #39;t listen to warnings. Ideas and work don& #39;t exist in a magical vacuum, sometimes pretensions of objectivity and science are used to push exactly the opposite, and there are people...

PS. If you notice this sounds similar to how rAcE sCiEnCe keeps rearing its ugly head, you got the basic idea.
